This graphic lists the countries with the highest average time spent on social media by users aged 16-64, as of January 2024. Data was compiled by We Are Social.

Kenya Leads in Time Spent Online

There are now more than 5 billion active social media users globally.

The “typical” internet user spends almost 2½ hours daily on social media, equating to more than one-third of their total online time.

On average, women spend 16 minutes more per day on social media than men.

TikTok has the highest average time spent per user, while YouTube accounts for the greatest overall share of total social media time.

With an average of 3 hours and 43 minutes spent on social media daily, Kenya tops the global list for time spent on social media. Across Africa, South Africa, Nigeria, and Ghana also report high social media engagement.

In South America, Brazil follows closely, with an average of 3 hours and 34 minutes spent on social media per day.

In Japan, users spend the least time on social media, averaging just 1 hour and 53 minutes daily.
