In 2024, auto manufacturers sold nearly 16 million vehicles in the United States, marking the highest sales volume since 2019.

Mazda Leads U.S. Sales Growth, Stellantis Suffers
Mazda broke its North American sales record last year (previously set in 1986), selling over 420,000 new cars. The Japanese manufacturer has improved remarkably since hitting a six-year low in sales in 2019.

Honda ranked second in sales growth at 8.1% with double-digit sales increases in Honda Civic and HR-V, its two lowest-priced models. The Honda Civic is also among America’s most popular cars, according to data from Insurify.
In terms of total units sold, General Motors (GM) led the race with 2.7 million vehicles sold, followed closely by Toyota and Ford. Moreover, GM accounted for more than 16% of all new vehicle sales in 2024.
Tesla’s sales declined year-over-year by 6.1%, partly influenced by its sales slump in California, the United States’ largest EV market. Registrations for Tesla’s Model 3 fell by 36% in California in 2024.
Stellantis suffered the largest setback in new vehicle sales, down 15% from 2023 levels. Its key brands posted the steepest declines in sales, including Jeep (-9%), Ram (-19%), and Dodge (-21%).
