The Keystone XL Pipeline: A Crash Course

The Keystone XL Pipeline: A Crash Course

The Keystone XL Pipeline: A Crash Course

Canadian Oil Sands production is set to double by 2020, and new markets must be found for this oil. Because Alberta is landlocked and has limited refining capacity, currently 99% of Oil Sands exports end up in the American Midwest. To get its oil to new markets at the best possible price, Canada is exploring three options: it can pipe the oil to the Pacific Coast and export it to Asia, refine the oil in Alberta, or pipe the oil to the Gulf Coast using the proposed Keystone XL Pipeline. Many issues surround the pipeline and much is at stake for Americans.

  1. Brad says:

You forget to mention climate change as one of the key risks that the Obama administration is weighing in making this decision. The large protests in DC about keystone make hardly any mention of the environmental considerations you have listed: it’s all about oils’ contribution to climate change. Outside of that miss, this is a great piece.

  2. David says:

Brad, that so called “climate change” was proven a joint effort hoax by tyrannical world governments as a means to literally tax the air we breathe with carbon credits. Most non biased scientific data disproves this hoax and majority of scientists who are not politically driven disbelieve in the hoax. One single volcanic eruption belches out more toxins than all the entire human activities in the history of civilization. Please discontinue spreading these tinfoil-hat conspiracy theories across the internet and leave it in the past where it belongs.
